Zanzibar City is the capital and largest city on the
Tanzanian island of
Zanzibar. It is also the capital of the
Zanzibar Urban/West Region. In 2002 it's population was 205,870 (2002).
The city is located on the west coast of Zanzibar. The main attraction in the town is
Stone Town, the historical centre. Stone Town is since 2000 a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most houses are made from
coral stone and were renovated in the last few decades.
